Liked The Garden of Small Beginnings? Charming, laugh out loud funny and emotional all in one package. Three and a half stars for This Won't End Well by Camille Pagan. In the time he has been gone and she's been alone they both have changed. Beguiling and cagey dialogue between characters. In order to cope and in turn, avoid getting hurt again, she's decided to avoid anyone new in her life. If you are looking for a heartwarming, fast and charming read, I definitely recommend this one. Proceed with caution.

SPOILERS for This Is How I Lied by Heather Gudenkauf. Themes: Thoughtful themes include friendship, finding your voice, taking risks, confronting workplace harassment, and believing the best is yet to come. Can Annie open herself enough to make new friends and take chances? There are a lot of strong female characters in this book which is another thing I loved about it. Even so, Annie can't help but wonder where the spark in their relationship is. I highly recommend reading it. It was Jon who had hired Mo to keep an eye on Annie while he was in Paris. To now make ends meet - and originating from the constant cleaning up after her widowed mother, who has some hoarding tendencies - loner Annie becomes a cleaning lady for hire to several of the friendly older residents in her neighborhood. As a scientist, she analyzes her life experiences through the lens of science. The thing I didn't like mostly is the romance parts of the book. Her social skills meant that she was a little slow to notice some things but I liked how she stuck up for what she wanted by the end, Mimi K, Media/Journalist. The thing I love about Camille Pagan's writing (and it was the same in FITWLT) is that her characters make some decisions that you might not think are the smartest, but they're realistic.

I am thrilled that I finally got around to reading one of her novels and can't wait to go back and read some of her others! Date of Release: February 26, 2020. They go down like light-hearted, escapist reads, but they address issues that matter to us all. While Mo can't discuss the specifics of this investigation (plausibly citing client confidentiality) he and Annie also become friends, and soon she is accompanying him to assist on other low-key cases. If you love books with strong female leads (especially if they are raw and human and falter at times just like us), then be sure to try this one.
Pagán has written for the New York Times, O, The Oprah Magazine, Parade, Real Simple, Time, and many other publications. It's such a good sign. Annie is a wonderful character, so easy to relate to in her mix of insecurity about personal issues and confidence when it comes to work and career. Fast forward 10 years, and both women are each crafting out a career for themselves in New York. At least in Annie's world. Didn't enjoy this quite as much as my first read from this author, but it was still an enjoyable story and I'm excited to keep diving into her backlist! The story is fast paced and laugh out loud! It's not only a cute read, but the story has heart to it!
