I've never seen the movie Titanic, so this is my first real brush with anything related to the ship. Jack Astor was American royalty, the richest man in the world at the time.

Basically all I knew was that her husband, John Jacob Astor, probably the wealthiest man on the planet at the time, died on the Titanic, and she survived. There isn't really a plot in this book per se. The "love" story between the two is no love story at all. I never compared my love for their father with either of them.
But Madeleine's most important decision still lies ahead: whether to accept the role assigned to her, or carve out her own remarkable path…. Their romantic courtship leads to an advantageous marriage for Madeline, but despite his families' suspicions, she marries him out of love and not for his money. I highly recommend this one to all of my Titanic-loving GR friends! I have had an intense fascination about the Titanic for years and when I saw this book on Netgalley of course I had to read and review it:P I didn't quite know what to expect with this book, but it was a pleasant surprise. So I personally know someone who knew someone who knew someone who at least tried to talk to Madeleine Astor in the immediate days after Titanic went down. Thus the middle of the road three stars. It made me feel so deeply on so many levels. Told in rich detail, this novel of sweeping historical fiction will stay with readers long after turning the last page. You can feel the love between the characters. Madeline Forces narrates her story to her son about the father Colonel Astor, one of the richest men in the world. Once done, I settled in. The second mrs astor goodreads. Don't worry- it's not creepy and they don't become a couple until she's of age. But it's never different, because the facts of the past are immutable. It was the small details, the subtle touches, in fact, that brought me to tears.

Her performance catches his attention and they're introduced backstage – an introduction that is captured by a member of the press and it doesn't take long for photographers and newspaper reporters to start haunting every interaction Madeleine has with Jack as he begins courting her. But this one—I'll admit, it brought me close to tears. Without question, it was having to deal with the crushing amount of confusing and often contradictory information about Titanic, its passengers, and its crew, that exists today.

Definitely a book I won't soon forget ❤. Caroline Astor would have never approved of Madeleine who was just three year's later seventeen when she starts dating JJAIV. Second hand sedan cars in Mumbai include petrol and diesel variants. It has the fatal flaw of being a boring story! Thanks to my buddies, who read this book with me - you are the best! The author has beautifully described the pomp and the divide between old money and new money of this era. The writing style is a bit flowery for the first half, but overall the story is well written. I thought that Madeleine's parents were loving but I don't think too many father's of seventeen year old daughter's would approve of a forty-six year old man courting their youngest daughter. Do you think the primary motivator behind it all was their growing love for each other, or more a fear of the escalating scandal? The writing style was so engaging and drew me into the time frame and Madeleine's thoughts. I smiled throughout their courting.
A couple of problems with this book that made it just about unbearable to read: 1. I enjoyed the switching narratives between first and third person as well. Vivid descriptions and lyrical prose, as well as a well-researched story gives readers a feel for the time and setting. Can't find what you're looking for? Captain Arthur Rostron, in his desire to control the official narrative (and also to protect the privacy of the survivors of Titanic, especially the widows), did his best to stop him.
