I really liked her determination to make a better life for her. What's wrong with the female devil? It's one of my favorite passages in the arc. I know this is the first book in a series, so they won't learn everything right away. Being self-sufficient is a must; monsters may also appear at random, and the professors are all total nutjobs! Sometimes she is aware of how little she knows having skipped the traditional apprenticeship but then she will disregard the advice of a centuries old master mage. I really liked Maddigan at the beginning, but she was always full of unchecked rage and I couldn't understand the origin really. I'm reserving judgement.
