This book is brilliant with Cdrama level angst, phenomenal world building, a captivating plot and incredible characters. A Day of Fallen Night is the second book published in the Roots of Chaos series. Though, really, kinda tempted to DNF. All This Could Be Different: A... Sarah Thankam Mathews. That's not to say this book is bad. I want more epic fantasy like The Priory of the Orange Tree, and we can hope publishers see and hear the impact this standalone book has had on readers. The big question with A Day of Fallen Night is, should you read Priory of the Orange Tree before or after? The slow build between two women (who I won't reveal because spoilers! People will believe what gives them hope and purpose.

I don't have a review for this one yet but it is in the same genre/vein as MDZS. Fallen Night is a prequel to Priory, but reading it first will spoil some of the surprises in Priory. He also agrees to try and help Tane regain her position as a dragon rider because of the courage and determination she showed in retrieving her dragon at the risk to her own life. Samantha Shannon has crafted an incredible world full of depth and danger, with characters I would follow to the ends of the earth. The Sapphic Trifecta! So then who did he marry to have a child with? Meanwhile, Sabran is finally with child but Ead is torn over her own budding feelings for the Queen which she is stubbornly ignoring right now but she knows she can only stay until the child is born and then she has to return to the Priory. We follow Touraine as she challenges the beliefs instilled in her by the Empire that took over her home, and watch her begin to build her own identity. Being a fan of plot lines with thieves and assassins, I started there. This story of good and evil, struggle and triumph, love and loss and return is beautifully written: complex but clear, and utterly immersive. I finally got around to making this post of LGBTQ+ books to read for Pride month of course, but it's also important to support LGBTQ+ books all year round too, so hopefully you'll add these at least one of these to your future tbrs! The main gist of the story is that the end of the world occurred, and the entire solar system was resurrected into a new order; necromancers in space. Niclays is currently aboard a pirate ship after trading his life for service as a surgeon while wyverns and a High Western attack Sabran's Palace. This book features an m/m couple as the main characters, with a heavy focus on found family.

This book is amazing and while my review wont be up for a little while as this published in August, it is well worth keeping your eyes on. Personally, I recommend reading Priory first because it gives you a broader understanding of the world of The Roots of Chaos. Set in a dystopian world where the story of Cinderella is used to suppress women, the main protagonist starts a rebellion by running away from the constricted kingdom. The next time she publishes something, I'm going to hie myself off to my nearest Waterstones faster than you can say 'Dracarys! They know what it means to put duty before personal needs and how hard it is to do so. The most interesting part is when Loth ends in Rauca and sends a secret message home letting people know he is still alive but he is secretly taken to the Priory where he is informed that the House of Berethnet are liars and that the religion he follows is false which angers Loth.
